View Full Version : Drivetrain Programs
I was wondering if any of you drivetrain guys made any kind of programs (matlab, excel, etc.) to determine certain information? If so what did you have it calculate.
The reason I am asking is our university is pretty much starting over from scratch and I would like to have a lot of tools, data, etc. for the next years team and so on.
Thanks!

If it's made by FSAE guys, chances are it's sketchy in some way or another. Probably better off doing the work yourself, then at least you KNOW how questionable it is!
What exactly are you trying to determine or solve?

I wrote excel programs to do pretty much all of the calculations for final drive ratio, CVT tuning, preliminary jackshaft design, aerodynamic drag, and inertial loss numbers.
Just be sure that you make it clear where your inputs and outputs are so people following after you can make heads or tails of what you have done.

I wrote a matlab program once upon a time that took in dyno curves, aero maps, kinematic models, tire models, and shift delay time and optimized the final drive ratio. It was basically a tweaked version of the program discussed in this (http://www.sae.org/technical/papers/2004-01-3554) SAE paper.

I wrote a matlab program that had the dyno curve, aero map, tire model, kinematic model, and transmission model as inputs and an optimized final drive ratio for accel as an output. It was basically a tweaked version of the method discussed in this (http://www.sae.org/technical/papers/2004-01-3554) SAE paper.
Would someone be able to email this paper to me?

You know, that isn't exactly kosher, however, Charlie is a nice guy, and has....distributed it. There are several links on these forums but surprisingly not many notice.
I'm pretty sure if you went to a website something along the lines of cpmaverick . com / Misc / and then looked for the pdf with that SAE code you might find something....
