Nissan's Le Mans engine is a 1.5L 88lbs turbo i3 making 400hp.
So chop two cylinders off to get a 500cc 30lbs turbo single making 133hp.

You, know I bet if you bored it out to 600cc you could get >150hp.
With no restrictor of course.

Probably not a project for a first year team.
But year three this should be right up your alley.

of course a fsae team have the same budget, the same skills, the same experience and the same knowledge as nissan....so it should be pretty easy!

I feel like if you used that same turbo, the lag on a single might be a bit much

I highly doubt the 88 lb weight includes the turbo, dry sump tank, alternator. Can anyone clarify this further?

Build a custom crankcase for a 450cc thumper bare engine essentials and you'll be close on weight per displacement. Then strengthen the rotating assembly with racing unobtanium and you'll have the single described above.
