View Full Version : Differential bearings calculations

Hello everyone!
I have been working on differential bearings for quite a while now, I considered max. loading due to sprocket chain tension(9kN),axial force(2g) and radial force(1.5g).
We considered a load factor of 2. We are getting a dynamic capacity of 25.77kN.
Specifications of differential bearings from these calculations are inner dia. 55mm, outer dia. 90mm, width 18mm.
I suppose the dimensions of my bearings are quite large w.r.t racing applications, can someone help me with my calculations?

P.S. I feel the load factor i am taking is quite high.

Hello Kris,
I think you should make some calculations starting from the forces coming from the tyres to the drive shaft passing through the suspension system and so.
design according to the most conditions " curves and corresponding speeds " and mind a convenient F.S. and just don't over design :)

a common bearing size for 'production' racing chain drive diffs (TRE, WRD, ICP) is the 6013 (65mm x 100mm x 18mm). It seems like you're in the right area for a conservative estimate.
