i went through quite a few post on the forum on how to fit rod ends into a arms.

i got this idea while i was asleep.. http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

why not internally thread the a arm tubing. use a mild steel plug, thread it externally and make an internal thread too.. externally so that we can screw it inside the a arm and the internal one so that we could screw the rod end into it...! once this is done .. to make sure the plug does not move by any chance, weld it at the periphery.

attached it a schematic diag of the same (blue indicates weld)

cause it's weaker and more complicated than a normal weld nut with zero added benefits..

While your idea doesn't seem too bad, I think Jake may have a point. A solution involving a lug press-fitted into the shaft, with a chamfer, has more welding area which is really whats giving you the strength.

I also feel your drawing may be exaggerating the wall thickness of the rods. Would you really be able to cut a thread internally? If the answer to this question is yes, then perhaps you should be going to a more light weight solution.

....or you can just do the lighter way and crimp and machine a joint to weld a press-in spherical bearing housing...and avoid any chance of trying to convince someone that your rod end is not in bending...

@ UNSWTIM

yes, the thickness is a bit exaggerated. its just a schematic; no scales used.

yes, will be able to get the internal threads done, but i guess by the end of the day, we'll be goin in for weld nuts.

@Racing maniac.

will surely be lookin into it..

Thanks guys.
