hi i am new to this thread and new to fsae .
I am taking part in this competition for the first time . we are an indian team.
the problem we are facing in the initial phase is that weather to use chain drive mechanism or shaft drive mechanism to transfer power to the wheels.
the debate which is going is that chain drive is not reliable and may break during hard acceleration, on the other hand some say that differential will add extra weight and will make the car complex.
can you guys tell me whats best for a rookie team ?

The best option for a new team is to use mechanism that comes with the engine, i.e. if your engine is chain drive stick with it.

+1
A rookie team will face a lot more problems on the way, other than deciding on drive type.
If you have options that have equally valid reasons, stick with one that is most time saving.

In short, time saving is the best asset for a rookie team. Save time for more testing
