Hey everybody,

Got a question to Rule B17.10

Arm Restraints
Arm restraints are required and must be worn such that the driver can release them and exit the vehicle unassisted regardless of the vehicle’s position. Arm restraints must be commercially manufactured. Note: Arm restraints certified to SFI Standard 3.3 and labeled as such meet this requirement.

Never saw anything like that in Hockenheim last year. Is this really important?
Whats an arm restraint?

Regards Phil

You can find the arm restraints, and information on them, here (http://lmgtfy.com/?q=racing+arm+restraints).

As far as I know, the rule was enforced at FSAE Michigan and Formula North.

The arm restraints are to stop your drivers arms exiting the confinement of the cockpit during an 'incident'.

Were you competing in Hockenheim last year? It's been part of the rules since I got involved in FSAE in 2009.

I would say it's as important any of the other belts/harnesses. However it's not something you can skimp on since it's set in stone in the rules.

You must not have looked very hard, because every driver is required to wear them and the scrutineers check to see if the driver is wearing them before every event.

It'll be hard to get out of your fireball of a car if both of your hands are broken/missing.

Hey

thanks for the posts.

Ok. i didn't saw that at hockenheim last year.

But whats with the egress test? Are the two arm restraints mountet at the quick release so that they get free at the egress?

Regards

Phil

Yes, they mount to the seatbelt so as they slide off when you pull the quick release.

Hey,

so is it necessary that every driver has the arm restraints or are two of them enough?

Thanks and regards

Phil

Its upto you to decide how many you require.
Since at most events, a totla of four drivers are registered, it would be great if you have four pairs of these.... http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I can't tell if Sharath is trolling, but one pair is enough. You can easily swap them between drivers. That is what we did at MIS for the 3 competitions we have been in.

Arm restraints are really not a big deal. Just pick up a pair here from amazon and be done with it:
