Hi,

We are new in FSAE electric and are preparing for FSAE Lincoln 2014. We were facing few problems with the radiator design for the car & need some help.

-Is water glycol 50:50 mixture glycol based anti-freeze? If so, what can be other options for oil based coolants?

There is a big thread (a sticky) that deals with radiator design. Check it out.

Also, a heat transfer or heat exchanger book will do you wonders.

If it has glycol in it, it probably fits as Glycol-based. For electric motors and battery systems, any thin dielectric mineral oil should work out and respect the rules. Though this is only my very unofficial opinion.

I haven't read it, but it seems to have some pertinent information.

In my experience, I have seen two solutions. The first is the electronics mineral oil mentioned above. The second options is that I've heard Remy motors can use ATF to cool the insides of their motors. I haven't confirmed it, but it's worth some investigation.
