Unfortunately, there is no LINKS page on the FSAE.com website, so I put one together to help everyone.

If you have any more, just post a reply, and I'll update the list.

I hope this helps everyone. This is what the internet is all about, passing along free information so one can learn. Thanks to all who helped me with additional links.

we used their Tornado F1 calipers this year (which are equiv to the dynalite single) and 10.25" Revolution Rotors. The only issue we had with them was a slightly out of spec rotor which they replaced without any questions. Their support is pretty good.

kozak
07-22-2005, 09:40 AM
can they custom make rotors for say, four attachment points instead of ten.

Kyle Jeffries
07-25-2005, 04:36 PM
can they? probably. will they? i doubt it.

The smallest they've got is a 10.25" which is 3bolt on 5.5" bc.

Any good manufacturing ones? I've been trying to find a list of all tolerances so I can make up an excel macro that spits out the dimensions for a hole/shaft given diameter and desired fit. Found some at http://www.ecs.umass.edu/mie/labs/mda/dlib/fit_tol/fitandtol.html but not all of them. (BTW, it's a fairly basic page, but might come in handy...)

(EDIT: Ok, so it's not quite design, but still... might help to get drawings done quicker... or something...)

O-Rings: www.logwell.com/tech/O-ring/Parker_Handbook.pdf (http://www.logwell.com/tech/O-ring/Parker_Handbook.pdf)

This one's more of a request. I'm interested in the minimum bend radius for oring chord. The only info I can find is at the link below but the graph resolution is pretty low, especially at low diameters. Has anyone got any more precise data on this?

http://www.pspglobal.com/hydraulic.html

Also, the rest of pspglobal's stuff on o-rings is pretty good reference.

I found an answer to my above question. A friend of a friend who is a Principal Design Engineer at a respected engineering consultancy firm recommended a rule of thumb that he works to from experience.

Min bend radius = 4 * o-ring chord diameter

Hello! I am a newcomer to formula SAE and am getting a head start my senior year of high school. The university I will be attending next year doesn't have a team and I am hoping to start one. As all of you know there is tons of work involved and I am trying to get as far ahead now as i can. Does anyone have a condensed list/ best of list on books for

picking parts:
Chassis Design:
suspension:
engine build/design:
driving:
picking up sponsors:

amazon ratings don't quite do justice to the level of relevant info to FSAE that each books contain

are there also threads on here about a walkthrough of teams getting started? I have heard of University of Nebraska Lincoln, the host of SAE West had such a thread but can't seem to find it (if i am blind don't hesitate to tell me)

There are two "stickied" threads worth reading, one called "Book List for reference to car design" and the other "SAE Papers on Formula SAE". You'll find useful suggestions there.

I suggest "Learn & Compete: A Primer for Formula SAE, Formula Student and Formula Hybrid Teams" as a good place to start:

http://books.sae.org/b-939/

If you can do it I would suggest attending one of this year's FSAE competitions as a spectator.
