here at OK State we have a Capstone design team that is planning on building a car. just got there alloy last week.(hehe) We also have a regular FSAE team with a already built car (two year car).

this is turning out to be a Senior Design Team vs. FSAE team duel.

The capstone team has no experance in FSAE yet is going to build a better car. Yesterday I sat in on the midterm report for the Senior Design Team and in there report the leader said he looked at out sourcing the welding but it would have been too much money, so they decided to all learn to weld. They reportedly looked on here in order to find out what type of welding to learn MIG or TIG and the team has decided to learn TIG .

What better way to learn than on a race car.

This is going to be fun I'll keep ya'll posted

That's a pretty bold statement to say without even building anything yet.

Let us know how that works out for you...
Just remember you'll be welding on something that might potentially be carrying a human at 80-100mph. Do you trust your newly acquired skills that much?

Ah yes. The days of welding structural frames at 3am, for god knows how long straight, swearing constantly about .065-.300" (no joke) gaps that the jigging guys left.

Can't say any of my welds have busted.. yet.

TIG aint bad. There just seem to be two types of people. Some who pick it up real quick with little guidance.. and those who cook the steel or refuse to listen and continually make enormous or just bad welds.

So your school is building 2 FSAE cars in 1 year?

Which is going to the competition?

I'd imagine the one with the car.....most senior year projects that I've seen around here have gone nowhere....
