we are planning on using thinner wheels for our car for reducing rolling friction, preferably motorcycle wheels. The only problem is that a normal motorcycle uses deep grove bearings but a car uses angular contact or tapered bearings. Can that be a problem or should we go with deep grove bearings bearings??

What loads will the bearings see?

The South African Solar Challenge 2012 is an epic, two-week race in solar-powered cars through the length and breadth of South Africa. Teams will have to build their own cars

Motorcycles generally have very high performance rubber compounds on them (for more grip) and may not have particularly low rolling resistance.

Like Thrainer points out, bearing selection is pretty straightforward once you know what sorts of loads you need to support.
