Ok, so I found this steering rack with the 8 in center to center that I need, but I can't find any good information on it. Anyone dealt with these guys before/ have any advice one way or another?

Also, does anyone know of any other options in the 8 in C to C range?

We used the 14" version of that rack on our baja cars. Lasted 3 years in very abusive baja service. By the end of the last year it was starting to slip (pinion or rack was worn and would jump/skip teeth). Good rack for the price, but do yourself a favour and change out the supplied rod ends for some good ol aurora chromoly's. The ones that come with the rack are made out of chinesium and last about 30 seconds.

Chinesium. That is my favorite word ever now! Thank you for enriching my life with that onehttp://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Wish I could take credit for that line, but I can't. Understandably once you hear it you can't not borrow it http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

Chinesium is now also my new favourite material. It is way cooler than Unobtanium.

Cheers

My rack from Titan Motorsports is 7 inches between the "dallara style" rack joints.

The real question is, wether or not it is chinesium, is can you get rack supports on there and still maintain the amount of travel the rack needs for your steering requirements. I ask this because without supports you will most likely bind up the rack and mess it up in the long run. The titan style racks have integral rack supports since it is a cast body and not just a pinion holder but then again they are like 400-600 bucks last I knew so... You get what you buy and at 80 bucks you will probably get a big fat turd in the mail. Remember for next time, steering is part of the suspension and your geometry has to be designed around it.

In case anyone else ever considers buying this rack, steer clear. Dimensions are way off, the edge to edge for the bolt holes is called out as 1.75 in the drawing, and its 1.85 measured by dial calipers....

Hate to say it, but Rob is right, its a giant Piece O' Garbage.
