I know this subject has been beaten to death, but I haven't been able to find the answer using the search tool.

Does anyone know if the Type II uses the same axles as the Type I? By axles I mean the spline shaft that goes into the diff.

thanks

If you're talking about the original "university special" differential, the Torsen website says the splines are indeed the same.
M021-DHU (Old University Special) (http://www.torsen.com/fsae/fsaefaq.htm#M021-DHU%20(Old%20University%20Special))

The type II is not the old style "university special." The type II can be found in Miatas and such. I don't believe the spline is the same, but I forget what my reference was on that. If anything, it's a bit more standard than the Audi one.
