Hey guys, Rutgers has one girl going to competition this year, but under Rutgers rules she has to be in a room with only females, aka, her own room. We were wondering if any other teams had females going to competition that possibly had an opening in thier room? We'll glady send the money for her portion of the hotel room for the week, but we're really trying to avoid having to get her a completely seperate room. Thanks.

We also have only one going to competition right now, and just made our reservations at the Courtyard by Marriot right by Big Buck. Not sure where you all are planning to stay, but she currently has her own room and there is room for more. E-mail me at trumbore@u.washington.edu and let us know the specifics of you travel plans (nights planning to stay, your hotel, etc) and we'll see if we can work something out.

Are these girls minors or adults? Frankly I don't believe the school has any business enforcing rules like that. It should be up to the women themselves.
...Not that it's any of my business.

I was thinking the same thing. I don't think they can really enforce something like that.

they can enforce it by not giving us school money next year. If we want to be a school club we have to follow school rules.

you should tell them its offensive to be treated like juveniles.

I agree.... I really hate paternal university policies. Really they are nothing short of control tactics to help them uphold their image, good or bad.

We have no rules like that... Last year we had 2 girls in 2 different rooms...
This year it looks like it will be 2 girls again...

Hey guys. For the past two years I've been the only girl from UT Austin to go to competion, and both times I just shared a room with three or four of the guys. Not a big deal, but it'd still be fun to have stay in an all-girl room. We'll be staying at the Wingate if any other chicks out there are interested. Let me know.

I could understand if this were a highschool trip and it was an official school event, but its neither of those things. I'm surprised the school even gives a damn. Besides that the female population in FSAE ain't that big and so its just a waste of money...
then again, my team is probably gonna sleep in our trailer...because we have no money. hehe

sleeping in the trailer isnt that bad, You get to hear ppl revving there engines all night long and if you stay in the trailer too long you walk out for the first time and have no clue what direction anything is. I spend one nite/day in the hotel in at the 04 comp, I slept forever!

lol...
well there is always the alternative...get one room and we'll all stay in that one room.
Atleast that's an option for us because we don't have that rule about the girls (well in my team's case, me) being in a separate room. Saves money. http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I don't get it.. do you have a faculty member holding your hands the entire comp? just tell them you are staying in a room by yourself then don't... if we did what our school told us to do we would never even be able to build a car...

yeah no shit... is it just me or do universities in general HATE fSAE?
we dont even have a faculty advisor. we get a random professor to sign off on it under the condition that he/she has NO obligation to actually do anything other than to sign the paper...
i kinda feel the same way... we're all adults, what grounds does the university have to try be our parents? I guess if the female member really has a problem with it thats one thing, but it really shouldnt be such a big deal.
at any rate, wherever this all girls room is... drop me a line if you want some company http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
Crap we have our first female team member and I forgot all about rooms. Guess we can hope she hooks up with one of the guys in our team so they can share a bed, then we can take more people.

lol...well make sure they time their fling to right around the trip so that there's no time for something to go wrong before...and if it does afterward, atleast you didn't have to worry about room arrangements. haha http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

nah, if something goes wrong, you just gotta find another team member to hook up with her. it'll be kinda like high school or something...

Gotta side with the Uni's on this one. 2 reasons:
1. Liability; anything goes wrong due to room sharing, they're liable.
2. If the girl does feel uncomfortable with sharing a room with guys, she may not voice her opinion because (depending on how the team pays for rooms):
A) She'd have to pay for her own room
B) She wouldn't feel comfortable increasing everyone elses rates
We're in a heavily male dominated field, and the room sharing issue is one things women have to deal with that men don't. It's the responsibility of the Uni (and us, actually) to try and keep the playing field even.

I dunno. She's made it to University, is probably living on her own, doing well in a male dominated feild... she can probably take care of herself. Besides, it's not like people stick to a proper schedual for sleeping anyway. With us it is always go till you pass out, and try to pass out somewhere comfortable.
I highly doubt that if 6 guys where crammed in one room and a single girl in the other that the room would not end up being shared... Just based on experience

i would feel damn uncomfortable sharing a room with most of the guys from my team. they fart, snore and look damn ugly in just boxer shorts. of course, i do to, but my girlfriend seems to be immune to that...
sorry to make fun of your post Mike.
im surprised Rob Woods hasnt chimed in on this one yet.

hotel rooms are masturbation. i feel sick when i look at people sleeping in real beds, it just not necessary.
go down to your local junkyard, pick up an old campervan without an engine and tow it to the silverdome. you can pull all the spiders out of it and eat them for tea. i hate all these people eating real meals, its just too complicated and un-necessary.
ha, you see, you think you formula guys know all the secrets, but i know how to live it up as well.

After spending hours, weeks, all-nighters... with the guys in my shop, there's no way I'd be uncomfortable sharing a room with them because I'm with them so damn often. They grow on you...like fungus. lol j/k I not only work with them, they're my best friends.
We're in a male dominated field, but I knew that from the beginning and I assume all the smart ladies in FSAE knew this too.

I agree with most of you. I think if the girl wouldn't mind, she should be allowed in teh same hotel room, but none the less, the university says we have to reserve her her own room. Just another waste of money.....
Easy solution.
Find a religious sect that will marry the whole team up into one big, happy, polygamous family so that you can all sleep in the same bed.
Then down to Vegas (?) for the divorce (good practice for later)...
Oops, checked dictionary, that should be "polyandrous family".
