Has anybody used Rotoflex couplings instead of CV joints? Would this be possible, and if so, what are the advantages/disadvantages of this approach - we are trying to save weight.
Thanks.

one team at comp last year ran rubber driveshaft joints from a BMW, they were rather big thou. cv are pretty expensive and with the minimal angular deflection the rear axles see on our cars, we could definitely get away with something that doesn't need to deflect as much.

Delft ran only kevlar flex plates for their drivetrain. Use the search tool under the find tab to look for them.

We've run them 3 years in a row without any problems, never broken one. Getting the suspension right at the rear is a bit harder tough.

Unfortunately I spoke with GKN guy at the PRI show just today and those coupling are no longer manufacture or avialable from GKN.

It should be possible to manufacture you own but that is definetaly not an easy undertaking with more knowledge of the product.

Apperantly that is the company that bought the tooling and related stuff from GKN. They guy had mentioned that they had a hard time selling it but finally did.

It would be nice if they had more info like price or ordning info. At least they have some stuff like weight and torque capacity.

Assuming our diff is level with the center of the wheel, what's the range of angular deflection that you get? Is it just atan ( 1" / (track/2) )? That peak angle limit of 4 seems pretty small compared to a normal CV.

Just to re-hash this topic, delft and others that run these disks, any idea how much axle plung you can get away with? The above suspension looks like it would have a fair amount of axle plunge..so is it just not really an issue? Is there a manufacturer's spec somewhere (I couldn't find one)?

In any case, y'all have some very nice drivetrains, I'm a little jealous http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
