I am curious what other people are doing or have done for their final drive ratio's and sprocket sizes. I have been thinking about going with a 3.818:1 ratio overall between the two sprockets.
Does anybody think this would involve too much shifting?
Specs for speeds in gears are:
1st - 58 km/h
2nd - 80 km/h
3rd - 101 km/h
4th - 116 km/h

In previous years it has been rare for us to get into second gear at competition during auto-x or endurance, although our final drive was significantly taller in the past.

Kev,
actually with a broader torque curve it was designed to stay in second without having to downshift keeping your hands on the wheels and focus on the track instead of shifting

Our ratio between sprockets is 5:1.

How do you package such a large rear sprocket? Are you running pneumatic shifting?

We don't have the package to fit a larger rear sprocket, so we try to run as close to an 4:1 as possible, slightly higher if we can fit it.

Even with a 4:1 there isn't much shifting. Most of the time we stay in second gear. One of the reasons we were slow last year in endurance was that our shifter broke the night before, our first driver was stuck in second and our second driver was stuck in 3rd gear, so it would have been nice to have been able to downshift on a few of the tight corners, which is why we're doing a completely different shifter this year.
