I have a starter on my engine that is too big and heavy. I called denso and got all the specs for and am looking for something comparable in draw and cranking power but is a bunch smaller. I was looking at the starter on our old CBR(F4i) and was interested in using it. Dont know the specs on it so I was wondering if someone did. Its a Mutsuba or something like that. On that note, does anyone know of any very small light starters used in other applications(racing) that might be of use to formula people like us. When I mean light I mean 5lbs and under.

A pull string should already be way lighter than that... Or did that already get veto'd by the team?

They used to start aero engines with shotgun cartriges. They're light, and you could get rid of that heavy alternator and battery...

Would look neat with some kind of pump-action reloader...

Seriously though (yeah, right... But I am!).

Compressed air motors are usually much lighter for a given torque/power output than electric motors. So has anyone thought about a compressed air motor (as in a pneumatic drill) and CO2 bottle for starting?

Denny,

Compression is too high. Tried and nearly broke an arm.

Z,

Just want something electric.
