Hello,
Our college motorsports team is participating in the SAE SUPRA INDIA(alternatively known as FSAE ).
I am in the suspension team and hence i would like to know what should be the starting point for designing one.
Knowledge so far :-
1) Studied basic concepts through Thomas Gillespie
2) Push rod system
3) Threaded SLA wishbone suspension
Now i want to know that what should be my first calculation to begin, this is where i am confused completely.
Please comment on what should be my Plan of action

You are headed in the right direction with your research, and your situation is a common one.
Common enough that it has been discussed on these boards many, many times. Here is a link to one such thread: http://fsae.com/eve/forums/a/t...48/m/73320357151/p/1 (http://fsae.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/125607348/m/73320357151/p/1). The thread turns in to a little bit of a circus, but pay special attention to the first couple pages and especially the first reply, which has a link to yet another thread on the same topic (a very good one).
There is an astounding amount of information regarding suspension design on these boards, all of which can be found with the "Find" button (top left). I would read around for a while and try to develop your own plan based on what others have done and what you think is appropriate.
Best of luck!

All too often we mock those who post with little thought, so perhaps a thank you is due to avinash for thinking before posting, rather than the reverse. Also, to Owen / Thomas (which is your first name!?) for the thread reccomendation. I am currently, procrastinating.

Hi Avinash,
I'll join JWard in congratulating you on your considered question, and setting an example for others to follow. As engineers we are first inclined to pick fault, and are maybe less comfortable in offering praise for good work. These forums can be a little biased towards picking fault - so thanks for the opportunity to be complimentary!
It is a valid question that you ask, and Owen has given you a good link to absorb. That should help clarify what you know, and more importantly what you need to know. Once you have a sense of the latter, this forum becomes a gold-mine.
Good luck!
