Hi,
I'm trying to choose shocks for a first design entry (probably mountain bike) but I'm having trouble finding info on dimensions & properties etc. Is it possible to find this from manufacturers or will we have to buy the parts first?

I thought this was a trivial question, but before I looked like an idiot I gave it a shot at finding the part files online. You're right its not easy. I found lots of service manuals that just gave general properties and "tuning tips."

I'd get on the phone before you buy anything. You would be surprised as to how much manufacturers are willing to help.

Here's the place to start:

Scroll down to Dampers / Shocks. It's a reference list I started a while back. You can try the search function of this forum also.

I clicked on the Risse Racing link, and then went to their coilover shocks. There are some dimensions, and then I found this link:

You can download Solidworks files for a Risse Racing Jupiter damper here: http://groups.google.com/group/FSAEnetwork

It's a start. Otherwise, yes, you'll probably have to buy a damper first to get dimensions.
