Hi,

Considering using some left over material to cut costs. I have seamed tube available for engine mounts. The mounts have been validated on FEA, with a very very high factor of safety (thousands) on the tube sections.

I can't see anything in the rules which says seamed tubes can't be used for this purpose.

Does anyone know exactly how much weaker seamed tube is compared to seamless, and has anyone had bad experiences when seamed has been used for this kind of application?

Cheers

Anything other than the hoops and impact structures defined in the rules can be made out of anything you want to make them out of. If you don't think it will break I don't see why you wouldn't make it out of that material or even something lighter (and if your SF is that high, its likely WAAAAAYYYY more than strong enough for the application)

Ok thanks for the response.

The high factor of safety does make me think that it'll be fine. My only reserve on that front is that I'm using Solidworks FEA, which has proved to be less than perfect! The boundary conditions I have set aren't 100% accurate, but hopefully it gives a good enough idea.

Thanks again!
