Thought you might like to see these pictures from the AutoSport show of "Osborn GT1000" 1.7734/15CVD6 tube (http://www.osbornmetals.com) as stocked by Tennant Metals. (http://www.tennant-metall.de/moto_de.htm)

Bigger pictures here:

The tube was constrained by clamping it at one end, then ramming it into a solid object. I've never seen anything thinwall deform so uniformly or do so without any cracking! http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Tensile strength Rm = 1000/1200Mpa, Yield (Rp0.2) at least 790MPa, Elongation at least 12% and zero heat-treat required. 25 euros/kg mind! http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

Who's volunteering to do the plastic deformation/energy absorbtion calcs...

Is that DOM ERW tubing? That is impressive.

Nice Pictures, we mde the tubes, Tennant's are a good enough outfit but they don't stock our GT1000.

Anybody need any info on welding this stuff etc. please ask.

Thanks for the compliment Dave.

GT1000 is the Osborn trade name for 15CDV6 (French) / 1.7734 (German) grade of steel. It is a high strength easily weldable steel that can be welded with no risk of cracking or weld weakness without pre or post weld heat teatment in the fully heat treated condition. This makes it ideal for more complicated structures.
It is somewhat more expensive than 4130 25CrMo4 T45 etc. but the ease of building structures and the extra strength / safety are certainly worth it.

We also stock sheets and welding consumables in the same grade.

For more info contact either Osborne or us.

Hi Barry

I stumbled across this forum while trying to find information on this 15cdv6. We are thinking of using this steel for an extreme/hardcore use mountainbike but are having trouble finding some specific dimensions.
We are based in the UK and I notice you guys are based in Germany, can we order from you?

Thanks
Burf
