With all due respect to Chalmers - it's a great little car - but how is their roll hoop legal. The photo in gug's second post in this thread shows a clearly below regulation clearance between the driver's helmet and the line between the roll hoops.

Either they scrutineered with a shorter driver - i.e. in breach of the rule which states the tallest driver must be in for this test, or they've seated the driver totally differently for that test which is surely outside the spirit of the regs.

I'm sure we could all design lighter cars if we removed some roll hoop tubes, but that's not exactly fair is it.

I tried many times to attach an image to explain the following question, without any result.

Could you tell me how the Rule 3.3.4 (The driver’s head and hands must be protected from contact with the ground in any rollover attitude...) is checked during the competition?

I think that at FS03 was verified only the
"two dimensional template".

Anyway when I look a Chalmers lateral pic, I see the helmet above the line drawn between the front and the main hoop.

Does it mean that there was no control?

It was a very unfortunate incident for monash to have two fires, and even worse to have killed(maybe?) an ecu.

I am not meaning to be disrespectful in any way, but does anyone have any photos of the fire? It was very spectacular on the day, despite the consequences... and I am just wondering if anyone is willing to share?

Actually, I am a bit of a pyro my self... so here is a pic of some VERY hot headers... and this is after about 40 seconds in the pits.


Does anyone else get headers like this?

(This is the wollongong car during some pre comp testing, notice the exhaust wrap... I think that would have made them a bit hotter as well..)

I know that alot of teams end up slouching in the drivers seat to pass tech. But, obviously in the Chalmers pic he is either not in compliance or leaning very far forwards.

What was the cause of Monash's fire? Looks like it kind of would flare up, then die, then flare-up again. Sometimes the things that go wrong are much more interesting that the things that go right though.

maybe oil filter leakage onto exhaust and wammo?
