seems like all the pictures are from afar. Is it because you guys are not allowed in the pit area?

It's actually the same deal as the Ford Romeo Proving Ground, you can go ask for photographer's access and you can get into the dynamic area to take pic....the proximity to the cars is actually closer this year since the dynamic area is much smaller. I think from a specatator's standpoint the view is better here as well, as the "stands" are not like 1/2 mile away from the actual track...

I don't believe it was announced, but SAE was allowing 2 photog bibs per team. One photog, one spotter. There were definitely teams with more than 2 bibs, and many teams without any. They had over 200 bibs and ran out.

I was worried there would be a swarming orange mass around the course and we'd piss the SCCA guys off enough to all get kicked out, but it wasn't too bad. Workers had to push people back occasionally, but there were plenty of good spots.

I heard talk that they might revise the team policy to only hand out the bibs while their car is out on course. So the photog and spotter would have to pass through the gates at the same time as the car, driver, and support guys.

I'd like to see the photog bibs be a different color from the worker vests, and someone give the photogs some basic instructions, like:

Do not sit, kneel, or lay down in a hot area. It is for your own safety: it is impossible to run away from an oncoming car (or parts of same) if you aren't standing up. Biggest problem I had on the courses with photogs was sitting/laying down.

Oh, and during the autocross oil cleanup? Next time, anyone in an orange vest will be given a lesson in the dance craze that's sweeping the world's race tracks, the Oil Dry Shuffle! Big Grin

Any word on if West will have the same/similar policy?
