I was wondering which international teams were planning on heading down to Australia to compete this December?

We at the University of Missouri-Columbia would love to come hang with you on your home turf, but those traveling fees are just too much and our team is too small to try and work on two cars. We do wish that we could do more with our 2004 Detroit car, but then again it just ate two engines so it's going to take a little break.

Sorry Eddie, no #4 this year.
Almost all our team graduated this year, and the new guys need more time to test and fabricate than usual. They are stuck with having to maintain a high standard. Too bad December is peak time for ticket prices, or I'd consider coming down to spectate and drink a beer or two. -Charlie Ping Auburn FSAE Alum 00-04 |

tullamarine at melbourne is a major international airport, about 25 minutes from comp site, and the melbourne docks are no more than 30 minutes away

University of Florida is tryin to get our car for the 04-05 Detroit competition to FSAE-A this December. We are pushin our student government to drop the cash as well as our regular sponsors to send us over. About how many schools actually come from over seas and how many are schools are actually down under with teams?

We thought about that last year. If a team could build a car to race in FSAE-A first, it would guarantee a finished and tested car in FSAE. I think Queensland is after the same thing with thier new car for FS. The downside is that you lose design time. In our case, we would have had to build a very similar car again to have it done in time and we weren't satisfied enough with that. But each team is different.
Last year there were 21 teams. 3 US teams attended, and I believe 3 European teams? Also a couple Asian teams. The rest were Aussies. Plenty of info at the FSAE-A website. Good Luck! -Charlie Ping Auburn FSAE Alum 00-04 |

I have been told today by the new team leader (I graduated Monday) that the team are entering the Aus competition.
Being within 7 months of graduation I will be there (with bells on :-) ) Looking forward to some sun already. I have sat through a gloriously wet British summer day today. Ben,
Sorry I'm not sure we can supply the sun you are looking for. They hold the Australian event near Melbourne. So in any given day you will probably see sun, then clouds, then sun, then pouring rain, then wind, then sun and wind and rain then ... There is a song by Crowded House that mentions "four seasons in one day". However until you get to melbourne you don't realise that they added another three seasons to the tally. Kev |

We will probably head over to Melbourne, but it depends on the weather. Those who came to Tailem Bend last year know how much sun we get
Any of the WA guys are welcome to stop by on the way over, and break up the journey. Let us know of your travel plans. Perhaps we can organise some testing for you here. |

Well after the track/site visit last weekend we experienced all four seasons in one day.....who knows what conditions we will see in mid summer. The climate will be a lot cooler than last years competition and it may even rain. Werribee isnt exactly famous for its sweet smell either, especially with a warm wind.
Our school is most probably the closest to the track, if anyone gets stuck we can try to help you out. Cheers Dave. Ive gone to look for myself, if i get back before i return, keep me here. |
