These pictures are from last week's Formula Hybrid at the New Hampshire speedway. McGill won the competition, with Embry-Riddle second, Illinois Inst. of Tech third and Dartmouth at 4th place.

hey mike, i believe, in my first post, the last picture shows the regenerative braking from McGill's University car. It could probably be the only car with that feature. Dartmouth might have one too, but i cant remember for sure.
A lot of these students are Electrical or Computer major with the exception of Embry-Riddle. They're all mechanical engineers. The closest we have to Electrical engineers are Engineering Physics students.
Most of these guys that i talk to either participating for the first time, or from other SAE collegiate competition, Snowmobile, HPV etc. So i dont know if they know of this forum exist, let alone post pictures from the FH competition. I didnt take that many pictures, sorry.

Here's a link to some more pictures from the NC State Hybrid Team (WEEL) Our team ALSO purely consisted of mechanical engineering students, however unlike these other schools, we were only a rocking a crew of about 10 total.
Being an engineer that works with high voltage battery packs regularly, some of these cars are pretty scary.
I don't understand why this competition can't be folded into FSAE with a bit of sanity added and some safety.
For example: -max battery pack 10kg -max battery pack voltage 36V nominal (unless ultra caps, than up to 52V MAX) -all electrical contained inside main safety structure
It would still allow for a fair bit of design freedom without the probability of electrocuting students. We have to be honest here, the last thing a student will worry about is their personal safety.
Would make a good addition to spice up FSAE and keep the students from hanging what looks like two 200V Toyota prius battery pack from the side of the car.
