NC State finished endurance with pretty good average times. Should be a great finish this year considering they haven't finished worse than 20th in any dynamic events, (assuming top 20 in endurance), and winning skidpad. Heard Michigan State and Florida had some fast lap times and I believe both have finished endurance. Heard that Texas A&M, Cincinatti, and Wisconsin-Madison did not finish endurance. And the Cincinatti car caught on fire.

Excited for my Alma Mater. Great team this year of good smart kids. This is the best part of being an alumi, seeing your previous hard work develop and progress into an even more successful program. And when you beat Cornell! Hahaha.

VFR750R,

When you say Cornell and UWA are out of endurance does that mean out as in finished or out as in broken down?

Broke, Cornell had an oil leak and UWA also did not come out of driver change.

I would like to receive some result too, but I think they are all at the Big Buck at this hour! Or maybe the new track is too far from it...

I left early but I got to see some of the early runner's attrition.

TA&M - out soon after driver change. Some driveline gremlin at fault.

Cornell - out during changeover, I heard due to some oil leak.

UWA - also out during changeover also leaking oil.

Wisconsin Madison - out, I believe during first stint, semi-spectacular cloud right in front of stands.

I had to leave (no, not to get a good seat at Big Bucks) when the second wave of cars was let in. I'm sure others will update.

Sounds like another 2003, when tons of top contenders fell out of enduro.

I am in the process or uploading what video I was able to take today. I had my camera with me for the afternoon endurance event. The filenames should explain most of them.

I didn't catch times for the end of the event, but Florida had fast time for a while with a 65.500 (I think). More teams than usual where able to finish, but many of the big names did not. It was a beautiful day for it!

Off to the shower then Big Bucks!

What's up Maize Rage.

Michigan-Ann Arbor finished endurance, and did a great job overall.

At about 4 pm there were a total of 40 or so cars that had finished endurance. At that point there were cars mostly running that had either finished at the back of the pack in auto-x or who had not run auto-x.

My money to win the event is RMIT. Great performance in endurance and they had some outstanding performances in the events prior to that.

Go Blue.

Alright, Alright, Everyone calm down. Here is the Scoop:

Cornell - Out due to engine overheating. They were burning oil during their first 11 laps and did not come out of the driver changed. I wantched as they mounted a great effort to replace the entire top half of their engine in order to make it out for the Road and Track event. I'm pretty sure they got up and running again.
As a side note, the E85 that was at comp was bad. We also had issues after we filled the car up on firday and the car was stalling all over the place (costing us our 4th accel run). We had some E85 with us anmd the organizers allowed us to bring it out and get fueled with that.

UWA - Out at the driver change due to leaking oil on the track. They filled up their oil catch can and it overflowed. They are running a dry sump and the thought is that something is wrong with the separator.

ETS - Out due to an issue with the brake pedal that caused them to be partially braked the entire time, causing excesive heating of the brakes.

Texas A&M - During the first lap of their second driver they had a component of the differential fail causing it to eat itself up.

Wisconsin - Not exactly sure what happened but the engine let out a ton of smoke after their first few laps.

We lost a wheel because of improper manufacturing of a rear spindle that needed replacing about a week ago. Pretty frustrating to have something that embarrasing happen after 2 months of testing with no failures. Anyway, seems like the top contenders are RMIT, Kansas, and Michigan State.

All three of the events on Friday were pretty hectic which is why the scores are so scatered with respect to the top teams. We managed to place 4th in Skidpad but did not due well in Accel because our drivers had never practiced in the rain. Many of the faster teams were also disappointed in autocross because of bad weather information. The track started to dry a little and it looked like more rain was coming so many teams rushed to make runs. In the end, the track dried up very well and teams were able to post better scores. It did make for a pretty exciting endurance race with many many passes. We were turing low 67 second lap times in the AM crew and passed 3 teams before the whole wheel "issue".

Unfortunately, I don't have any shots of the scoring sheets because I figured someone would have jumped right on that. Hopefully someone with tons of pictures will post soon.

Ah what a blast. The UM-D team fared decently well, we picked up a bunch of points that we didn't get last year, but lost some in other places. I'm guessing we'll end up with nearly the same point total/place.

We did find a blown head gasket on a post-enduro teardown. The engine was not behaving nicely all weekend. When it was working right, it was great, but it was inconsistent. A lot of 1 cylinder, 1.5, .5... you get the idea. It was pretty much on .25 cylinders for the first few laps of the enduro. I was moving at a snails pace and nearly stalled a few times. After the first half a lap though, it started to make a continuous improvement. It was at a consistent half power/1 cylinder by the 3rd or 4th lap and full power by about the 7th. And stayed full power all the way through the next drivers 11 laps. So we're still working out the kinks and have yet to even compete with the Briggs at full power. In rough running form we dynoed at 6.5hp baby! But we were 15th in skid, 30th in accel, 66th (stupid cone... er, driver) in autox, and finished endurance. I can't remember what our fuel economy was, but I think were were in the lead for the cars before lunch. Can't imagine the cars after lunch were turning faster laps on less gas, but I could be wrong.

So now what you've been waiting for, the pictures. The new camera was great, although I did snap a few horrible shots with the full 12x optical zoom in use. Tough to track a car that fills the frame when you're so far away. But I'll keep at it. I snapped off somewhere around 500 pictures this weeked. So that means I got about 4 good shots out of the deal.

I did try to get as many teams as I could. I'm sure I have multiple pics of some teams, and none of some others.

If you'd like a high res version of any of the shots, let me know. (2592x1944 resolution, ~1.5-2 MB each) If you're from a magazine, you are welcome to use any of them so long as you tell me where I can get a copy!
