Most cars are "disposed" of via alumni or given to a sponsor in a non-functioning state for display.

These cars that some students invest 20-40+K in, is there any resale value to them?

When weighed against the potential liability exposure from an engineering/fabricating mistake, turning these older cars into carbon fiber flower planters seems like the prudent choice from the institution's perspective.....

UMR/MST has sold a handful of older cars, one of them even went on ebay.

UTA has 20+ cars, almost all of them in current operation I believe. It's impressive.

I wonder if they get a fleet discount on insurance.

Having one or two running cars around would be awesome, hopefully we get to that point someday.

We had the most running cars around 1996 and 1997 all but two cars in the fleet were running. The 1990 and 1993 cars were disassembled for rebuilds which never happened. We had nine running cars at that time. Since then the lower performance older cars have sat idle (except for the 1988 car campaigned by Dr. Woods and the 1987 car, newbie trainer car). And recently, several cars have gone to alumni.

Usually UTA gets between 5 and 7 cars running for Texas autocross weekend.
