Or where have your guys ended up? Few on our team seem to persuit more of this line of work.
Brooks (02) - Turned down an offer from Prodrive, hangs around and is our go-to guy for trick welding and test driving. Works for Coyoti Engineering in Boulder doing ski lift stuff (I think). Brendan, Doug (02, 03?) - Founded Apikol, aftermarket Audi parts. Brooks was part of this for a while. Scotty (04 Cpt) - Briefly was doing something with the Saleen S7, currently getting his Masters at UTA. Graham (05 Cpt) - Swift Engineering, worked briefly on 016a, now on other projects Eddie (06) - Honda of America, safety engineer Chris (06) - Ford Motors Brad (08) - Currently interning with BMW in Germany Me (07) - Trying like hell to get my foot in the door. I like this stuff. Its different, its fun, I'd be down for traveling or moving elsewhere. Would like very much to be a DAG or junior race engineer with an open wheel team, or a design/manufacturing/test engineer. We'll see how it goes. Site visit with Goodyear on Tuesday. |

I've been surprised by the number of people from the team I was on who did not have a real interest in pursuing a career in Motorsport. Having said that, I can think of a few recent FSAE alumni who have found jobs in Motorsport. Two work at Stackpole Engineering Services, two at TRD, one at Red Bull (Nascar), one at HPD (Honda), one at GM Racing, and one at Forsythe. I think there would be at least three or four more if they didn't have DOF killers (girlfriends/wives) when they graduated.

Unfortunately, wouldn't qualify working for an automotive OEM as 'this line of work.' It's quite a different world than FSAE; though its a good solid interesting career.

Looking to join an ALMS team eventually... be it as an engineer or as a team principle in my own venture...
As for now I'm just doing design work for my portfolio and sending resumes to companies like Apikol ----------------------------------------- http://www.audacitydesign.com University of Tennessee FSAE Team Principle 2006-2008 |

It would be great to work for somebody like BMW or Porsche. There's a guy from "rural Wisconsin" who's now the lead body designer for BMW worldwide. Great inspiration. I should have taken German instead of Spanish in middle school. Just pretty much not Ford, and I'd be happy.
I hope that guy is having fun designing ski lifts, becasue Prodrive's P2 is pretty kick ass. No regrets, I hope. ------------------------------- UW-P Vector Representative "500 kilowatts of whoop-de-friggen-do electricity!"- http://www.impulsengine.com/pe...nce/horsepower.shtml "The pleasure of driving shouldn't be something that's reserved for people with very deep pockets."-Conor (I modified it a little bit) |
