Hello all,

I am new to FSAE.com.

Tell me, I have heard in FSAE circles that there will be an assortment of friendly after-hours entertainment this year at Formula SAE ranging from interteam go-kart racing at Kart2Kart to unofficial non-FSAE vehicle racing at a yet undisclosed location to a flammable liquids contest somewhere near OSU's trailer...true?

If so, who's in?

"Racin'...always in good fun."
"Don't take life too seriously, you'll never get out alive."
"I'm Charlie Ping, 'nuff said."
"I wanna' be a Buckeye when I grow up! Brutus! Brutus! Brutus!"
"Cornell Racing...where freshmen go to learn the difference between metric and standard crescent wrenches and somehow build a winning racecar by senior year...those rats!"

Sounds like fun, we're taking a trip to competition this year for research and developement since we didn't make registration, We would have time to go have some fun if any events are going on. If anyone knows of events going on post some info.

Those of us who are karting phanatics at work (us FSAE judges, scrutineers and rules committee members) want to challenge all you punk kids to an evening of Kart2Kart one night of FSAE weekend. I'm thinking Saturday night, so there is no excuse that you have to work on your car. Anyhow, we'll book an hour if we think there is enough interest, or we can just show up semi-organised. Usual format is a qualifying session, then two races for each group - normal and reversed run order, or even more fun clockwise and then anti-clockwise. Beware, it's like $20 a session (unless you're a member like me). We could even have a a weigh-in so us downforce-challenged can run without having to deal with jockeys in the same run group.

What do you think? Six pm saturday night?

John,
I’m in for sure. I think you can probably count on a few of my teammates as well – so maybe five of us total. Saturday night worked well last year.

Looks like we have the makings of a plan. I'll go out on a limb and suppose there are disorganized types who'll show up even without RSVP'n. So Kevin Royce and I'll work on getting at least an hour reserved just for old fogeys vs young punks. After that, we can free form - but I'll race anybody Smile

John,
Have you been taking part in the auto manufacturer Kart2Kart races? I have been to two of the races on behalf of Nissan (those guys work too hard so we rarely have the required three for a team). Let me know and I'll look for you the next time I go.

Updates for folks in Detroit checking the site. We have confirmed there are no other organized events tomorrow night (lateness of my update due to the fact I have been working AND judging AND scrutineering 18 hours a day last three days). So just show up, I'll bring a scale and the laptop and we can get everyone organized and on the track for some fun.

Michael - I actually have a conflict the weeknight of the OE races. But I intend to start racing pocket bikes there sunday morning Smile

Thanks for the small group that came out and raced me - maybe next year we'll be a little more organized. While we were there, members of Cornell, Illinois, Rutgers and Western Washington had a go at the track. A few locals ran with us and we ran backwards (anti-clockwise) for the A & B-main finals. If you do run at Kart2Kart - see if you can talk the owner into running backwards, it rocks.

Finally, be assured that as the organizer in the future I'll build a weighing scale that is fair to all for overall ranking Smile (we had 100% difference in weight from top to bottom).

By the way, jack thinks he's all that - but I passed him twice...

If you guys want, I can post up the "Industry League" race updates every so often. Good fun, good competition, once a month.

I think there might even be one coming up this week. Or else we just had one last week.

Both of you are all over the shop and need a good beating to get your time spread down to 2 tenths, but Bucks is the clear winner, jagging 1 fast lap doesnt count.(next lap 31.29!) Smile

Assuming a good number of teams will be staying in Utica, it'd be stupid for us to not meet up at Kart2Kart in the evenings. Its only a mile or so south of the M59 intersection w/ Van Dyke.

http://www.kart2kart.com/home.html

They're open till 9pm on Wednesday and 11pm the rest of the weekend. The owners are great with impromptu events, so if there's enough interest we could probably line up some kind of tournament.

Also, there are a couple of decent places to grab a beer, D&B's, the Locker Room, probably a dozen more.

This year's after-hours might turn out to be pretty fun considering we can't pull all nighters on the car as easily. I'm looking forward to it. See you guys in a few days!
