Hey everyone, tough I could share pictures of this year's Canada 2006 Grand-Prix Edition. It was open paddock day on the racetrack, so basically, everybody could come down pit lane and stare at the beauties!
Also, BMW are putting a lot of money to attract people and visitors with their BMW Pit Lane Park were basically an F1 (Jacques Villeneuve's car (replica, but running)), a Formula BMW and a bike are burning rubber to the cheers of the crowd in the middle of downtown Montreal (basically in front of the Bell Centre, were Montreal Canadians Play)
Where were you to have pictures from the other side of the stands and at the pit lane entreance, were you the alumnis that have a BMW Formula Team and travel with them to this place cause nobody is allowed to be as close as your pictures tells me?
Also, what kind of camera/lens do you have to take those pictures, I have a Canon EOS 30D but I only have the 17-85mm lens
Yes I do have the alumni connection, we get to watch the race from across the "Champion's Wall" at the pit entrance, I just climbed on top of a forklift to get shot over the fence. The hairpin shot were just taken at General Admission's area. I am using a 300mm f4 at the hairpin, and a Sigma 70-200 EX DG at the Chicane. The camera is a Konica Minolta Maxxum 5D.
That's what I tought, It was impossible that on a general admission you got the chicane shot taken.
Good for you, I saw them from the grandstand 1 when BMW serie was on, they have now a orange and black car, are they still having the brother of Nelson Philip as their driver? I had spoke with them last year.
field of 41 cars at the start, 3 turns later there are only 24! that was a spectacular crash
The Formula BMW guy who finished the race in reverse was a riot too.
any of you guys have general admission tickets? we did and were very very disapointed with them. the island is a maze to begin with, and there was only like 3 areas to stand.. *shrug*
I have a GA, most of the pic of the car turning was from the hairpin. My FBMW connection let me go to the chicane for the race and the quali, but most of the time I was at the hairpin. If you get there early enough its not bad. You are looking through the fence instead of over it like the grandstand, but you can still see the jumbotron and hear PA. The place was fill though even when FBMW guys were running on Sunday, and that was 9:00am....
Basically, people were already on the island at 7h30 (I saw it on the news sunday morning)to be in line to have good spot for the afternoon race on Sunday. It was a little bit comprehensible, on saturday it was a national day and I know friends who've partied all night long and instead of going to bed for an hour of sleep went directly to the island and waited for a good spot in GA.
