Could a car leak wather and continue running the endurance event? This happened in the FSAE Brazil and this car won the competition.

The car could complete the event if the engine didn't blow up or the event captains and stewarts didn't see the leak and black flag it.

Git up on that wheel!!!

This is up to the discretion of the stewards.

However, generally cars are NOT allowed to leak any kind of fluid. In the US, if the fluid leak was seen and recognized, the car would almost certainly be DNF'd.

As Garlic said...its at the discretion of the stewards. A certain Kansas team lost their fuel cap less than halfway thru Endurance at FSAE West this year and were allowed to complete the event. No one noticed any fuel spilling out though.

In any case its my opinion that Black flags cannot be incurred post-event. If the stewards see it during the event, then by all means. But DNFing a team after they have completed the event w/o having caused obvious injury or damage kinda sucks. Post-race the only place to be DQ'd would be in fuel economy and tech inspection.

Michigan State was also spewing what looked like radiator water for most of enduro. I don't think they were pulled.

Just for the record, the Kansas car was pulled in for the missing fuel cap and held for two minutes. This was a full minute longer than the decision process to allow them to continue as long as no one reported fuel exiting the tube. (Thank God for a tall fill tube, a design consideration) The odd part was that they allowed the car to continue eventhough the car was shooting a 1 to 2 foot fireball on shifts and decel. The Michigan State car should have been pulled in for the obvious coolant loss( it shows as a geyser on my video). The car expired at the same time as the geyser stopped.
It was like watching a Britsh race car, you know that they will run until the engine stops smoking.

Flames are cool, and as long as there are no leaks it's OK in my book, but that missing fuel cap should've thrown a CEL. Wink

Something bothers me with the Kansas pic... proximity of the extinguisher to the racing path. Kind of a heavy object to hit, no?

They would have let us keep going after the driver change (with some reservations), but, obviously our engine was toast at that point and wouldnt start.

besting thing about the kansas pic: left side(no fuel cap), middle (fire extinguisher), right (sweet fireball).
