Hi all,

Yesterday the University of Western Australia Motorsport car left sunny Perth for Melbourne, from where it will get on a plane to Detroit.

It was a frantic week... we spun a big end bearing in practice last Saturday in our race motor. Pulled it down on Sunday, considered whether to take one of the new team's engines but decided to rebuild. So rebuilt it Monday, put it back in Tuesday, finished it off Wednesday and tested it Thursday. The car seems OK but we couldn't put many miles on it in pitch darkness on Thursday night!

Anyway we've made a lot of changes to the car since Adelaide last year. New braking system, revised gear shifter, changes to the 'hubrights' to make them more wear resistant, and above all a brand new plenum and much revised map that gives us a much nicer power delivery, less fuel used and seems significantly quiker on accel and around a track. The flames are gone now, too. Shame that Smile Hopefully we've now sorted out our reliabilty problems, although a bit of a question mark remains over the engine.

Does anyone have a spare F4 sitting around that they would be prepared to give us an 'option' on? I.e. if ours breaks we buy yours? Let me know on dw_riley@no.spam.hotmail.com (delete the no.spam bit...). We're air freighting the car, so we're packing light! It's still costing us three times more than I budgeted though...

We'll be in Detroit, staying with Oakland Uni, on the 10th of May - Looking forward to seeing everyone then!

Cheers
Dave Riley

no problem, so long as it's good beer. dont wanna give you a bad impression. last year some guys from finland (i think) were in our hotel, and we chilled with them and gave them some beer.

We were drinking Natty (Natural) Light, and they tried it and said "American beer tastes like water", and Natty light does, but at $12 for a 30 pack, you can't beat that Big Grin

Shiner Bock is good texas beer, thicker than Bud or Miller, with a much better taste. I'll bring some up, like a case or so, and let yall try it.

what hotel are yall staying at?

Dear friends,

We are really sorry but we can't meet you in Detroit,
our budget doesn't allow to send our car to USA.

We are really sad but we'll be present at Formula Student 04 Cool (we have only to drive to UK Big Grin).
So we hope to see as much as possible of you in Europe.

We wish you all the best luck for the FSAE04,
and we hope to compete against the FSAE winner in UK Big Grin.

Guys, there's no point in arguing. Besides, everyone knows that Quebec microbrewers make the best beer, more specifically Unibroue or McAuslan's. Unibroue makes La Fin du Monde (my personal favorite), which is 9%, yet surprisingly smooth, and has a shelf life of ten years (if you're REALLY intent on nursing it). Also, if you ever have the chance, try La Maudite, any of the Ephemeres, or any other Unibroue product won't be disappointing.

And please don't judge Canada based on Molson products. If Molson didn't own most of my school I wouldn't touch the stuff.

shiner bock is the best of both worlds: small, german brewery-style beer, with a texas attitude!

"What a fascinating history there is behind the Spoetzl Brewery! Immigrant Czech and German farmers settled the little town of Shiner, Texas (some eighty miles Southeast of Austin), in 1887. Longing for the old-world taste of their homeland, they quickly formed the Shiner Brewing Association, in 1909.
Today, Shiner boasts a population of 2,213 people and one family of beer.

and cute texas chicks drink it!

That German beer is pretty good. La Fin Du Monde is pretty awesome too; we always get that when we go to the GP up in Montreal. Mike, why don't you bring some over to the UToronto paddock and lemme see what the texans have to offer!....... and bring the blonde in the cowboy hat on the left too Wink

That bud crown kinda looks like the track in Formula Student......Big Grin

Looks like some wet weather testing for us today...

Cheers,

Vinh

I personally like a beer called samuel smith oatmeal stout and some of his other varieties myself. Might bring some up if I get the chance and our advisors don't think we drink em on the way up. It will be my first time up there, so it will be a pretty new experience to me. Good luck to all of the teams Aussies, Canadians, Europeans, and of course Americans. Our car should be testing by sometime before friday of this week if all things go smoothly. Hope to have some great competition against you guys, I'm sure we won't fail to give you all a challenge.
Later,
