Hi every one! I am new in the big world of fsae and this year I'm designing the direction system. My question is, do you guys use bearing for the steering shaft or only bushing? Depending on your design why are you using that? Thanks

We use a teflon bushing turned on a lathe...it works well as long as its supported well...If it isn't then you'll get lateral play in the steering wheel.

On our steering shaft we have a lightweight spherical bearing. Easiest solution I think.

We use 2 small ball bearings...smooth steering, no play in the shaft

we have used a large composite spherical in the past... now we use a thin roller bearing
